If a patient experiences dizziness, the examiner will initially determine the symptoms. Through pathophysiology, they will observe the sensation of the patients. Careful examination and close questioning can reveal major differences. For instance, some may have migraine and multiple sclerosis while others can suffer from vertigo.
Evaluation of Dizziness:
When a doctor thinks that you may be having a stroke or feeling dizzy due to a blow to your head, they may immediately ask for a CT scan or MRI. Most people who visit the doctor for their dizziness will be asked about the medications they take and the symptoms they experience. During the exam, the doctor will be checking how you keep your balance and walk. He will further notice how the important nerves of the central nervous system work.
Management of Dizziness:
Some medicines help relieve migraine as well as dizziness.
Valium or Diazepam, Xanax or Alprazolam fall under the class called benzodiazepines. The latter can however cause drowsiness and lead to addiction.
Medications that relieve nausea and dizziness
Your doctor will prescribe medications that relieve the symptoms of nausea, dizziness, and vertigo. They can be anticholinergics and antihistamines. Some of them result in drowsiness.
If you are suffering from Meniere’s disease, your doctor will ask you to take a diuretic or water will. This combined with a low salt diet will lower your chances of having a dizziness episode.
